aeropuertoAnalysis on How to Concession Three Airports in Panama

Tuesday, February 5, 2013, La Prensa (article in Spanish)

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) of Panama is to hire a consultancy company to implement the privatization of airports in Chiriquí, Colón and Rio Hato. CAA will be looking for a consulting firm to determine whether the airports Enrique Malek (David, Chiriqui), Enrique Jimenez (Colon) and Scarlet Martinez (Rio Hato, Cocle) will be managed by a single concessionaire or privatized separately.
Rafael Barcenas, director of the CAA, said that all that is needed now in order to start the privatization is to remove the Executive Decree which transfered the control of these three airports to Tocumen SA, the semi-private company in charge of the expansion of Tocumen International Airport.  Government authorities believe that the management of these airports represent a budgetary burden for Tocumen which is undergoing an expansion process.
