Marine archeologist James Delgado discovered the abandoned submarine on the shores of a remote island in the Perlas Archipelago in Panama in 2010. Since then his arduous investigation uncovered the origin and history behind this long-forgotten submarine. The remains of Julius Kroehl, who died in 1867 and was buried in the foreigners’ cemetery in Panama, were exhumed on Oct. 2018 and will be given a military burial by the US (as veteran of the Civil War) in 2019.
